CELTA

Successful trainees of our courses are awarded a University of Cambridge CELTA, which stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults. It is the main TEFL course and certificate of the many that are accredited by the University of Cambridge. It is the most reputable course in its field and culminates in the CELTA certificate.

After receiving the CELTA (that is, after passing the course), graduates are qualified to teach English to adults, though it is certainly not out of the question to teach English to younger learners also. Teachers who have gained their CELTA are able to work in colleges and language centers inside or outside of the US. That is, some graduates find themselves teaching English in New York while others find themselves teaching English abroad.

The University of Cambridge, which administers the CELTA, is the second oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of the largest in the United Kingdom. It has a reputation as one of the very best and most prestigious universities in the world.

In 2006, Newsweek Magazine ranked the university as the sixth best university in the world. Though an introductory TEFL certificate, the CELTA holds its candidates to extremely high standards. In fact, the University only endorses CELTA training courses once centers like Teaching House have completed a rigorous accreditation process. Each course Teaching House runs is also inspected by an external assessor appointed by the University.

To learn more about CELTA, visit the Cambridge ESOL website, where you will also find a downloadable syllabus.
