St. John's University

St. John’s University (founded 1870) is divided between three campuses in New York City: Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. Teaching House is based at their Manhattan campus, an open-planned, airy and naturally-lit building which is ideal for learning and teaching.

There is always a supportive and secure atmosphere around the university and the numerous open and relaxing areas provide ample opportunity for students to combine rest with work. It also has a well-stocked library, two computer rooms (additional computers are located in the library), photocopying and printing services and a cafeteria. There are also many additional facilities in the surrounding area including restaurants, bars and grocery stores.

The rooms that we use are modern, well-lit and clean. They each have palette chairs (chairs with attached writing tables), two large blackboards, a teacher’s desk and chair and projector facilities. Immediately outside each room is a rest area with comfortable sofas and clean bathrooms.

The university is serviced by an unparalleled number of subway lines (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, W, R, J, M, Z, A & C), as well as numerous bus lines and the Staten Island Ferry. It is near the World Trade Center Site and adjacent to the Hudson River.

Right in the heart of the city, St. John’s University is the perfect location to do your CELTA course and we at Teaching House are confident that you will thoroughly enjoy the experience of studying there.
